How it Works

Using the calculator is simple:

  1. Enter Ship Information: Start by inputting the ship’s name, the date you embarked, and the date you disembarked.
  2. Add Multiple Sea Time Entries: If you have additional periods of sea time, just click the “plus” button to add new entries.
  3. Track Your Total Sea Time: As you add your sea time, the running total will be displayed on the right-hand side of the calculator.
  4. Save Your Sea Time: Once you’ve added all your sea time entries, you can save the total as a PDF for easy reference, which can be helpful for your MCA Oral Exam application.

With this tool, you can ensure that your sea time calculations are accurate and organised, making the application process easier and more efficient.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sea Service must be calculated in months and days using the following rules:

  • One month is calculated from the date you joined the vessel to the preceding day of the following month irrespective of the number of days served.

Example: If you join a vessel on the 15th of one month and serve on board until the 14th day of the following month, that is calculated as one month sea service.

  • Odd days should be added together and reckoned at 30 days per month.

Example: From 03rd Jan to 05th March calculates as two months and three days sea service.

  • No day may be counted twice.

Example: If you leave one vessel and join another vessel on the same day, that day can only be counted once.

Once you have entered all your sea time data, you can save it as a PDF. This document can then be kept for your records and assist you with completing your MCA Oral Exam application paperwork.

While the Sea Time Calculator is designed specifically for the MCA Oral Examination, the tool can also be helpful for tracking your sea time for other certifications and documentation purposes. However, it’s always recommended to check the specific requirements for each certification body.
